Access To Healthcare:
A Top Priority

African S.M.I.L.E. has worked over the last several years to renovate the physical buildings and support the medical care provided by the Iambi Hospital, the main hospital serving the northeastern section of the Singida region.

In addition to working to improve the quality of care, African S.M.I.L.E. is helping to construct more housing and dorms for nursing students, providing local women career options and providing facilities to house future caregivers.

“The communities of the Singida region desperately need our help. We may not be able to affect the health care of the African continent, but we can make a difference in this one region.” -SM

Curbing the Spread of AIDS
and Other Infectious Diseases

Of an immediate concern --- the region does not have the facilities needed to treat the swelling number of AIDS and malaria cases. As part of the plan to expand the Iambi Hospital campus, African S.M.I.L.E. is breaking ground on an isolation ward building. The building would provide treatment facilities for 40 patients.

Educating the Children
African S.M.I.L.E. and partnering organizations have built four classrooms for primary school children, replacing outdoor facilities that were subject to the elements. Sticks and dirt have been replaced with chalk and chalkboards for writing out lessons. We are currently partnering in the building of a secondary school in the region.
